Update on my message of 15th October.
Despite the fact that Council Members and employees are bound by
fairly Draconian confidentiality rules, Kim Bibby-Wilson has received
fairly definite assurances that this new project does not involve the
Chantry, Town Hall or Carlisle Park (the town park which has been
receiving some improvement of late.) It is therefore likely to be in
a peripheral area of the town.
However, the new project would seem to cover similar areas to the
report on the Chantry prepared by the "Tourism Resources Company" in
2003. There is of course no reason why Morpeth should not develop
multiple tourist destinations, but it would seem a great achievement
to instantly find enough craftspeople to fulfil the requirements of
two destinations, especially when the current stallholders have been
given their marching orders.
If anyone wishes to see the report, go to www.castlemorpeth.gov.uk
and look at the "Chantry Project" link in the left margin.
I have e-mailed Guy Beaucamp, in an attempt to get more information
about the "further consultation".
